Coachella Style Guide: Cut-Offs Loving This Look
Posted by Chelsea Kane Apr 17, 2012 at exactly 6:00 am

Shorts:

One thing you’re definitely going to see a lot of at Coachella are cut-off shorts. I’m a fan of cut-offs that have a little something extra (think, a little embroidery, or some patchwork).

Here’s my favorite pair:

I love to pair these with a sweet little tank and my thumbtack wedges.

When I went to Coachella last weekend, I decided not to bring them with me, despite being perfect for music festival in the desert. Between spilled drinks, sweaty bodies and god knows what else, I wasn’t willing to take the risk.

What will you be wearing as things warm up?

Peace, Love and Sparkles,
Chelsea

Apr 17, 2012

Hey Chelsea I'd love to see a pic of your thumbtack wedges as well!

Loving This Look: Vintage Chic Loving This Look
Posted by Chelsea Kane Feb 17, 2012 at exactly 8:03 am

Hi everyone!

When I was watching the Grammys after my live chat last Sunday, Taylor Swift’s vintage shabby-chic look for her performance reminded me of this little gem:

Lace dress
My friend Claire Oring who’s a photographer made this dress out of three different lace slips and wore it to her prom. It’s definitely one-of-a-kind and I love how feminine it is. Anyone can stop by the store and pick something off a rack, but you’re not going to find something quite as unique as this piece. Top that, Andie Walsh.

If you’ve designed something of your own, send in a picture. I’d love to see your work :D

Feb 18, 2012

Hey,  Chelsea-  first time I have ventured in on one of these sites - very busy working mom as a PT in a hospital wearing boring scrubs -  hair / shoes are the only fun part of my wardrobe daily ;).

Since I saw you on DISNEY,  L O V E your bob! Tried to update my style current + easy to manage - used your advice for the Red E To Go, etc.

Problem is this:  showed several stylists pics last year - they aren't quite getting the idea though! Do you think your stylist would detail the method/angles to help! (the style when you did the video for the reason for cutting your hair would be awesome!)  I have spent a lot of money and no success yet. Thank you for this forum, and thanks for all the charity work you do - you have a wonderful spirit!
Peace, Love and Take care!

Loving This Look: Crazy Hair Colors Loving This Look
Posted by Chelsea Kane Feb 6, 2012 at exactly 9:39 am

Hi everyone,

Lately, I’ve been seeing more girls rocking crazy hair colors, which I’m totally digging. Honestly, I think it began with the trend of ombre hair, (where the hair is dark at the roots and gets lighter at the ends), before people started using more playful colors to experiment with.

I really like the “dip-dyed” look, where color is applied to the tips. It’s fun, unexpected and when you get tired of it, you can just trim it off.

I’m thinking of getting in on the action and putting a fun color in my hair to mix things up. Maybe pink…what do you guys think?

Peace, Love and Sparkles,
Chelsea

Feb 6, 2012

I'm gonna color my hair in pink :) And to do that i'm gonna use a ColorBug, it's like an eyeshadow for your hair, but it's totally washable if you don't like it. You can get it here : http://www.kevinmurphy.com.au/products/newstuff_productdetail.php?id=143 :)

Feb 6, 2012

I love it! I have had red in my hair since september. Red tends to fade really fast so i have to get it redone every 2 months and it turns a pink/ orange color becasue i had to bleach my hair but im sure pink will probably last a little longer. Heres a tip to keep it from fading: use a shampoo with no sulfates (it wont lather like regular shampoo) I use wen, and wash it in as cold water as possible. This helps so much! below is a picture on my hair, its kind of dark so you cant see all the red and pinned up so it looks more stripy than it is but you get the idea :) I love these cool colors good luck on your crazy colors everyone!

Feb 6, 2012

I love this! I've loved it since Hilary Duff had pink tips in Cadet Kelly :) I think pink would look great on you!  I'd love to get some turquois, just a little bit at the end.. but I know I'd always chicken out :P

Feb 6, 2012

I want blue hair cuz BLUE HAIR DON'T CARE!

Feb 6, 2012

I love having color in my hair! I've had pink streaks, and maroon streaks. I've also had my hair maroon. Currently it is red, but I'm thinking of switching it. I think your hair would look awesome with pink tips!

Feb 7, 2012

I think it would look fab. in your hair! ;) Do it! :) If you do, please put up a picture so we can see it!! <3 :)

New Year's Eve Style Guide Loving This Look
Posted by Chelsea Kane Dec 26, 2011 at exactly 8:04 am

aHi everyone,

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and I can just see it now, everyone dressed to the nines and in good company. I don’t know about you but I like to start the New Year off with a good outfit that makes me feel pretty and festive. That being said, styles vary from person to person and it’s best to find the outfit that best expresses that excitement for you. Here are two different New Year’s Eve looks I created and wanted to share with all of you. Enjoy!

a
For my first look I decided to go classic with a modern twist. This collared number screams timeless chic but also, amps up the volume with the scoop back and ocean of sequins. These delicate earrings are pretty but demure so as not to clash with the shiny effect of the dresss - NYE is the time to glitter but not blind. The neon clutch and hot pink accents really pop against the otherwise black and white elements of the outfit and give it that modern edge.

Look 1:

  1. Rare Sequin Dress With Sequin Peter Pan Collar - $89.08

  2. Fossil Nice Ice Rivoli Earrings - $32.99

  3. Asos Envelope Clutch - $36

  4. Benefit Little Flirt Lash - $15.00

    a
Aren’t these lashes the cutest? They are very playful and doll like, making your eyes look dazzling without being too heavy on the drama. These feminine mary janes play in with the whole “doll” feel of the outfit but make you look and feel like a woman in charge – don’t mess with these heels.

  5. butter LONDON '3 Free Nail Lacquer in Primrose Hill Panic - $14

  6. Chunky Heeled Double Buckle Mary Jane - $31

  7. L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara - $7.04

  8. Smashbox Lip Gloss in Electric - $18.00

a

For my second look I decided to go brighter and more relaxed with this bright flamey dress and various gold accents. I definitely channeled a sunset of sorts on the past year and kicked it into high gear for the next! The dress itself is striking but also, soft and flowy – perfect for possibly dancing the night away? The dress is vibrant and obviously the focal point of the outfit, so rather than try to compete with it I just accented it with gold accessories and makeup.

Look 2:

1. Red/orange layered tank dress - $21

2. Asos Pyramid Metal Tip Clutch - $27.27

3. F21 Woven Bangle Set - $12.80

a

I highly recommend the Naked Palette from Urban Decay, as it will give you that fresh face glow and just the right notes of drama. What’s there to say about these shoes – they’re killer and speak for themselves ;) and finally, for your nails, glitter. Glitter, I say!

4. Urban Decay Naked Palette - $48.00

5. Aldo Marum Camel Strappy Sandal - $40

6. American Apparel Meteor Shower Nail Polish - $6

Did you like the looks I thought up? Which one did you like better? I’d love to know what you have planned for New Year’s Eve – share it in the comments.

Peace, Love and Sparkley Dresses,

Checks Please: Houndstooth! Loving This Look
Posted by Chelsea Kane Nov 21, 2011 at exactly 8:08 am

Hi everyone,

Houndstooth is such a classy and sophisticated look and is thought to have originated in Scotland. Despite being a classic pattern, houndstooth is easily one of the most striking and fun ways to accent your outfit. Houndstooth has a bonus perk that makes it even more irresistible, you can wear it on your clothing or pull it off via various accessories. That’s some serious multi-tasking. Checks, Please!

a

  1. WOLFORD Cheryl Tights - Black, Modcloth, $55

  2. Mini Dogtooth Satchel - B&W, ASOS, $22.46

  3. Houndstooth Women's Classics - Silver, TOM's, $54

Fun Fact: The double check pattern was first popularized in the 1930s and went on to become iconic in the fashion industry 70s up until now.

a

  1. Streetcar Tour Dress - Houndstooth, Modcloth, $47.99

  2. Pencils and Buses Coat - Canary/Grey, Modcloth, $154.99

  3. Sequin Skirt - Houndstooth, ASOS, $98.84

Do you own anything with a houndstooth pattern? Which of my picks do you like best? Do your thing in the comments.

Peace, Love and Sparkles,
Chelsea

woahh so cute! i want that skirt and tights! Chelsea seriously you are my style icon, you are so beautiful & original, and everything you wear is like to die for! :)

Nov 21, 2011

When I saw the title of this post, I was SURE you'd have the Sally Hansen houndstooth nail strips included! I'm linking to a HelloGiggles article about them (I didn't write it, but the whole website is pretty darn adorable, and worth checking out - I could see you writing for it sometime, Chelsea.).

I own a houndstooth coat, but I can't really where it at school. I go to Auburn University and our rival school is the University of Alabama and houndstooth is the adopted pattern of the university, but I wear it when I'm home.

Tighten Up: Patterned Tights Loving This Look
Posted by Chelsea Kane Oct 24, 2011 at exactly 8:09 am

Hi everyone,

I have to say I’m really digging all these patterned tights that I’ve been seeing lately. With all this rain and fog, tights are a perfect way to perk up your outfit without having to compromise feeling nice and toasty. I’m sure everyone has a pair of opaque black tights because they literally go with everything.  But do you have any patterned tights? No? Well, then you’re in luck – feast your eyes on these bad boys:

Left to Right:

  1. Betsey Johnson Love At First Tight - Hot Pink, Zappos, $18

  2. A Ring to It Tights - Black Sheer Pattern, Modcloth, $14.99

  3. Sheer Luxe Zig-Zag Shapes Pantyhose - Pearl/Black Zig Zag Dot, American Apparel, $25

Pro Tip: If your tights are crazy colorful or have an eye-catching design, let them be the focal point of your outfit. If I’m rocking some hot pink heart tights then I like to keep the rest of my outfit fairly simple.

Left to Right:

  1. Betsey Johnson Hits the Dot Tights - Black Lace, Modcloth, $19.99

  2. Laugh On Tights - Canary Yellow Print, Modcloth, $29.99

  3. Peacock Feather Tights - Grey, Modcloth, $29.99

I picked out different types, but they all stand out in their own way and are sure to give your outfit an interesting twist. I mean, those canary paisley ones? You’re like a walking ray of sunshine – so cute.

I’d love to know where you shop for tights? Which one of my picks is your favorite? Drop me a line in the comments.

Peace, Love and Sparkles,
Chelsea

I love the canary yellow ones!  I don't think I'd be brave enough to wear them, but they are so cute!

I usually stick with plain black tights, but I think I'll take a step on the wild side and try some with a pattern!  Thanks Chelsea!

Oct 24, 2011

I love patterned tights. From yours my fav is the canary yellow and the peacock one.

I've got a lot of patterned tights. Sometimes I buy them online or if I go shopping and I see a cute one I buy it
