...It was too hot to actually float outside!

Hi everyone,

My dad got the short end of the stick when I was born. His only child, a girl. A very girly-girl. We had our father-daughter moments; I was into go-kart racing for a few years... we both enjoyed eating the special "company" food my mom prepared before our "company" ever arrived... but for the most part, we didn't see eye to eye on a lot of levels. For example, I never cared about how to change the oil in my car no matter how many times my dad tried to teach me. There was also the occasional "I'm glad you're excited about your new lawn mower, Dad, but can it drive me to the mall? Nope? Over it!"

This isn't to say that we didn't get along, we just didn't share a lot of the same hobbies or interests... That was until my dad showed me his record collection. I had always seen them stacked all over the house, but to me they were just those "dated" cardboard envelopes that made us rent the extra large U-Haul every time we moved because they took up so many boxes.

Suddenly, I was seeing pops in a whole new light. These albums were cool—despite their hilariously art directed covers. So therefore, my dad must be cool too! Little did he know that Urban Outfitters was selling turntables and a handful of records at record highs... and here he is, sifting through roughly 200 records. Some of them so rare, collectors would kill for a copy.

Do your parents have a record collection?

The first cover that jumped out at me was a band called Love. I saw that track 3 was "Hey Joe" and I was only familiar with the version Hendrix made famous, so I asked if I could put it on. It rocked. I loved it. I loved Love. I love Love.

To this day that song is the first tune I throw on when I visit home. From there on out, our house is filled with the scratchy vinyl sounds of Seals and Crofts, Simon and Garfunkle, Yvonne Elliman and John Denver to name a few...

So Dad, Happy (almost) Father's Day! You’re an awesome friend, hippie, and fellow music lover.

What are you getting your dad for Father's Day?

Last year, I got mine a turn table with a USB so he can download his favorite albums onto his computer...(And selfishly, I got to transfer them onto my iPod! Cool crackles and pops included.)

Just in case there’s any confusion, I thought I’d post an easy step-by-step guide on how to sign-up and become a member of Chelseakane.com (even if you’re an international reader!). Why do you want to be a VIP member of my site, you ask? Well, when it comes to receiving email notifications for new blog posts and updates, leaving comments below posts, creating topics and conversing in the forums, and uploading photos, videos, and sending friend requests and private messages on my site—it’s members only! So read on to find out how to sign up and start getting the most out of my site:


Registering from outside the US…

When you get to the registration page in the “Sign Up” process you will see your default country selected as the US with a small American flag icon. To change your country, simply click the little American flag icon and a whole list of alternative countries/flags will pop up for you to select. Next, select the correct flag for your country and then you can enter your correct city!

Still having trouble joining ChelseaKane.com? Follow these steps to sign up…

If you have a YAHOO, GMAIL, MSN or AOL email address:

1. Click the ‘SIGN UP ’ button located in the upper right hand corner of the site, or in the rectangular bar at the bottom of the screen.

2. Enter your email address and click the ‘NEXT’ button.

3. You will see an option to login to your personal email address as a way to sign up for a ChelseaKane.com profile. Click the ‘GO NOW’ button.

4. A window will appear, allowing you to login to your YAHOO, GMAIL, MSN or AOL email address.

5. Once you have logged in, the window will disappear and the website will reload, taking you to our registration page.

6. Fill out your Name, Age, Gender, City, State, and Country.

7. Upload a photo to use as your profile avatar.

8. Click the ‘JOIN’ button. You now have a profile and are ready to start participating in the ChelseaKane.com community!

If you do not have a YAHOO, GMAIL, MSN or AOL email address:

1. Click the ‘SIGN UP’ button located in the upper right hand corner of the site, or in the rectangular bar at the bottom of the screen.

2. Enter your email address and click the ‘NEXT’ button.

3. In the next window, click the option ‘SIGN UP’.

4. Choose a site password, confirm the password and then press the ‘NEXT button.

5. A confirmation email will be sent to your email address. Click the activation link contained in the email, and you will be redirected back to ChelseaKane.com.

6. The website will load, taking you to our registration page.

7. Fill out your Name, Age, Gender, City, State, and Country.

8. Add a profile avatar (this is optional).

9. Click the ‘JOIN’ button. You now have a profile and are ready to start participating in the ChelseaKane.com community!
